at buylesslivemore.org "impact" means the effect of our choices on the environment, geo-politics, and the global economy - and just as important, the impact of our choices on our daily lives. this is where the concept of mindfulness comes in. by considering all of these factors when making even the simplest choices we can express our values and improve our lives and the lives of those around us.

Philosophy

Buy less – not buy nothing. Make the things you buy matter

  • Ecological Consideration
    • Our mere existence requires that we have an impact on the Earth, but what does that impact need to be, and how big should my part be?
    • Is there another alternative with equal benefits to me, but a smaller impact to the environment?
  • Social Conscience
    • Know the manufacturer and retailer, and understand their position on things that matter:
      • Human rights
      • Workforce wellbeing
      • Pollution / emissions
      • Organic / green
  • Personal Impact
    • Align purchases with personal objectives:
      • Know what’s important to you and how your purchase supports it
      • Ask yourself, “How will this matter? How will it better my life?”
    • Avoid peripheral items and distractions
    • Remember, life is about experiences, not possessions. Possessions are only important when they enhance experiences.

Simplify, Select, See the Difference

The road to realizing our vision runs through the decisions of every American. Deciding what you stand for and speaking your mind with your purchases is one way to get there. This is what our slogan means.

Simplify: focus on those things that mean the most and leave the rest behind.

Select: Understand the impact of your decisions and choose in a manner that is consistent with your beliefs. Be mindful of everything you do.

See the Difference: The first two "S's" will make a difference. Recognize and celebrate the difference you make, and keep it up!
